The first document mentioning Ritten was around the year 900 A.D. as "Mons Ritanus".
In 1900 the Austrian Goverment planned in Oberinn a climatic spa. But after the World War I,
South Tyrol became part of Italy and Seefeld was picked as new site.
Nevertheless you can recover in peace and quiet still today.

 Unterrinn |
As in the mediaeval times the Eissacktal was not trafficable, was Ritten the only path to Rome. More than
60 emperors passed this region over the centuries. Around 1600 A.D. this place had been discovers by the rich merchants of
Bozen for the freshness of the summertime. Today the traditional holiday sites remember the past times.

 Lengstein |
Ritten exists out of 17 small villages. Most of the area is used for farming.
On the lower descendings fields vineyards are planted, while on the higher reaches are acres and fields.
Lengstein is a good starting point to visit the church of St. Verena: On primeval times there was a cult site. The oldest document mentioning the church is dated on 1256 A.D..
Here you have a great panorama view on the Dolomites and on the opposite side of the valley you can see Kastelruth.

founded in the 13th century as a hospice for the Teutonic Order - you can still smell the medieval atmosphere at the
modern medival fair, which takes place between then end of July and the middle of August in the intimate theatre and an open air theatre.
