The heart of the South Tiroler snow mountain rises itself into the height of 2.000 till 2.500 meters above sea level through a cliff which splits the Ridnauntal and Passeiertal. The real beginning of this mountain work and mining started many years ago when the locals here started mining for silver. They used the silver to make the most beautiful grave stones at Meran. . Since they opened a very attractive winter sport centre in Ratschings with many slopes and lifts, Ridnaun become famous for its many cross country and biathlon tracks. So far they already hosted the Worldcup in 1993 (replacement for Oberhof), the European Championship in 1996 and the World Championship for Juniors in 2002.
