In Niederdorf you have a view on the Dolomieten in all directions.
Niederdorf has a long history in and goes back in time till 994, in that time (Nidringdorf) was mentioned for the first time. Niederdorf is for over 150 years a centre for tourists, the first ones discovered it and love it because of it´s many possibilities. It gave acces to the raw beauty of the Sexner and Prager Dolomites, they were climbed in 1869 by brave Alpinists. The landscape is a big inspiration for many artists and has been a meeting point for the famous kings, queens, princesses and princes from many different countries. |

Since 1871 is Niederdorf easy to reach by train, Vienna and Munich are only a couple of hours with the train away.
Halfway the 19th century, Niederdorf became very favous for it´s all over the world well known hospitality and the place to be in the summer. The wellknown Emmerentia Hellensteiner from St. Johann in Tirol, also call Frau Emma (1817-1904) was the most famous inn-keeper in Europe, the inn(Hotel Emma) was well known for the warm welcome for every guest and for her cookingart. Niederdorf was one of the few postoffices in the Pustertal, and had a special meaning. It became a centre of mail and goods, everybody come from the mountains to visit Niederdorf and do their business. Every met everybody here, it became the centre of the Pustertal. The first ´Postmeister´ came "Johannes van Kurz". He lived in the Wassermann house. Now a days it is used by the Niederdorfer Touristinformationboard. |
